Description
To increase the oxygen concentration in the blood. As an important component of the blood pigment hemoglobin, iron enables the red blood cells to transport oxygen. Hemoglobin binds the inhaled oxygen and transports it to the body cells. The need for iron is high, especially during periods of great physical strain, such as the flying season, the breeding season and the moulting season.
A shortage of iron is therefore one of the most common deficiency symptoms in our racing pigeons. The immediate result is anemia, which means that the entire organism is not sufficiently supplied with oxygen. The racing pigeon obtains its energy during flying mainly from fat metabolism. The supply of energy from fat metabolism requires much more oxygen than, for example, the carbohydrate metabolism used by humans. A sufficiently high hemoglobin concentration in the blood is therefore a decisive factor for performance.
Also during the breeding and moulting period, 5 ml Active Iron should be added to 1 l of water or
1 kg of feed for 25 pigeons per day at least once a week.
