Combating trichomonads is of central importance for the performance of the racing pigeon. Outside the racing season, only as few medications as possible should be used to promote the natural resistance of the animals.

This is where the regular administration of the natural product Usnea barbata from beard moss proves its worth. Administering Usnea barbata twice a week or every 5-6 weeks for 5-7 days has an excellent preventive effect. This way you achieve natural protection without the animals becoming resistant.

Pigeon fanciers who have problems with their young animals can also administer Usnea barbata for longer periods. Lichens produce a series of secondary metabolic products that act as antioxidants and lead to an activation of the immune system. They have a very immune-strengthening effect and regulate the function of the organs.

Directly before the racing season, a 5-7 day treatment with ronidazole BT (10%) is recommended to start the season absolutely safely and without trichomonads. However, during the racing season we advise not to administer ronidazole anymore, because this can have an inhibiting effect on the form. We have had the best experiences with Metro, produced according to Dr. Erdösz, which is sprayed directly into the crop of each animal in a 2:8 dilution. With this highly effective and tolerable combination of active ingredients, your animals are free of trichomonads after just a few minutes and you lose no time with regard to the regeneration phase. The sensitivity to trichomonads varies greatly from pigeon strain to pigeon strain. Therefore, treatment is not necessary, as long as the training behavior of the pigeons at home is good. The longer you can do without treatment, the more constant the form curve will be.
